Calling all nature lovers…

The People’s Trust for Endangered Species (PTES) is inviting anyone passionate about nature to take part in one of their wildlife surveys this summer – whether you have 10 minutes, a couple of hours or the whole weekend to spare. You can participate in your own back garden, in the countryside or even on the road, depending on the time you have available.

From 10 minutes: hunt for stags

From an hour: spot mammals, dead or alive

  • Record mammals you see, dead or alive, that you spot during car journeys. You can take part in the Mammals on Roads survey from July. Download a free app from Google Play or the App Store.

From a few hours each day: monitor endangered species

  • Join the National Hedgehog Survey any time between May and September to help the PTES find out more about the threats this prickly creature faces. You will need to commit to monitor 10 footprint tunnels over five consecutive nights in a 1km square that will be allocated to you.
  • Download the free PTES Orchard Mapper app (for iPhone and Android) to survey orchards already mapped by the charity and to add any new ones you find.
