That winning wildlife shot…

When Russell Hartwell came across a local waterway, he knew that in the right light it would possibly produce striking images. Little did he know that one particular morning, everything would come together and the resulting image would scoop him a top prize in the 1997 Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition. Now, 19 years later, his son Tom Hartwell – himself a professional filmmaker and photographer – has revisited the scene of the winning photograph with his dad to make a beautiful and insightful film into what it feels like to be out there in nature seeking powerful photographs.
