The annual La Gacilly Photo Festival is underway, showcasing hundreds of large-format photographs in the streets, parks, gardens and alleys of the village of La Gacilly in Brittany, France.

The theme for 2026 is ‘A French Adventure’, marking 200 years since Nicéphore Niépce, one of the pioneers of photography, created his first images.

Among the festival highlights is Vincent Munier’s latest work, ‘Le Chant des Forêts’ (Whispers in the Woods), which captures the beauty and majesty of the forests of the Vosges in eastern France where Munier spent his childhood. He returned to this wild landscape with his father and son, and their quest resulted in a documentary film of the same name, released in France last winter to wide acclaim.

The festival also pays tribute to Sebastião Salgado with an extensive retrospective exhibition, and there is a show dedicated to Félix Nadar, his brother Adrien Tournachon and son Paul Nadar; three trailblazing men who shaped photography in its early days and helped to establish it as an art form. The festival runs until 4 October. Find out more at festivalphoto-lagacilly.com.
