Neil McIntyre's new book on red squirrels

Scottish wildlife photographer Neil McIntyre has teamed up the campaign Scotland: The Big Picture to launch his self-published book The Red Squirrel: A future in the forest. Gathering support through the crowd-funding site Kickstarter, McIntyre hopes to reach his £25,000 goal to fund the production of his hardback, 168-page book.

Living close to the Cairngorms National Park, McIntyre has been watching and photographing red squirrels for the past 30 years. Although the species thrives in the park’s pine forests, throughout the UK red squirrel numbers have declined dramatically in the wild – largely due to the lack of suitable woodland habitat.

McIntyre says: ‘This little animal has enriched my life so much over the years. It is my hope that by you seeing this collection of images you’ll feel part of the red squirrels hidden world.’ His hope to promote the importance of the red squirrel through stunning colour photography aligns with Scotland: The Big Picture’s ethos to encourage the rewilding of Scotland via compelling media.
