Pick up a copy of OP’s March issue (on sale 8 February, out to subscribers today) to discover Nicholas White’s compelling Black Dots project, where he travelled across the UK to document mountain bothies and bothy culture. White was drawn to bothies because the story that surrounds each of them is constantly changing and evolving. Everything someone knew enters a bothy the story gets a little bit bigger, says Nicholas.
Here we take a look at the short behind-the-scenes video Nicholas created with outdoor gear manufacturer Rab and production company Coldhouse Collective. Speaking about the film Nicholas says:
‘I teamed up with Rab in the very early days of Black Dots and they were fantastic when it came to kit support and promotion of the work. After the completion of the project, they invited me out to Shenavall Bothy to feature as one of the characters in their new film, The Place of the Gaels. I found it to be a rather difficult task, as my experience of visiting these places had generally been quiet, understated and in many ways, lonely, and here I was with a full production crew. That said, it was great fun and I’m delighted with the resulting film. I’ve since gone on to work very closely with Coldhouse Collective as a freelance photographer and creative director, and we have some very exciting collaborations coming up!’
