Exhibition with a difference

MMX Gallery presents The Sun Beyond the Shadow, an exhibition of new work by British photographer and artist Valda Bailey. Opening on 9 February to 10 March, the majority of the pieces are limited in edition and printed onto museum glass plates. Distinguishing this series from her previous projects, Bailey has also added copper or gold leaf to the final prints.

With a background in painting Bailey’s work is less about portraying a literal representation but rather conveying feelings evoked by the landscape. At the core of her photographic practice is the Japanese concept Wabi-sabi, which embraces the beauty of imperfection.

She uses a variety of experimental techniques, such as intentional camera movement and multiple exposure, to create her unusual imagery. Mixing together photography and painting to powerful effect, Bailey is regarded as one of the pioneering landscape artists working in the UK today. Here she invites us to expand our creative mind and enter her way of seeing the world. This is one exhibition not to miss.
